About the Role:
This position is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified position and is exempt under the Equal Opportunity Act (1984). The position will only be open to those who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
The Aboriginal Youth Consultant plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 12–25 to achieve positive social, emotional, and wellbeing outcomes. Working within a culturally safe, trauma-informed, and youth-centred framework, the role empowers young people to strengthen their connection to culture, community, kinship, and Country while navigating health, wellbeing, and support services.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Aboriginal Youth Consultant provides holistic and culturally responsive support that recognises the unique experiences, strengths, and aspirations of Aboriginal young people. The role focuses on building trust, fostering resilience, and supporting young people through important life transitions, including adolescence and early adulthood, ensuring their voices, culture, and wellbeing remain at the centre of care.
Experience Requirements:
Experience supporting Aboriginal young people in community, health, education, or youth development settings.
Experience working with young people experiencing complex needs, including trauma, grief, or disconnection.
Experience in youth advocacy, case coordination, or youth support roles.
Experience in outreach, engagement with young people, or leadership development is highly valued.
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people from regional and remote communities is highly desirable.
Qualification and Other Requirements:
Diploma of Youth Work or equivalent relevant qualification
Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
Current or willing to obtain a National Police Check (NPC)
Employment is subject to compliance with Sonder’s Immunisation Policy. Applicants must hold, or be willing to obtain, all vaccinations and immunisations required for the role.
