Salary Range: $100,783.2 - $114,980.32 FTE |+Super +PD Allowance
Hours: Part-time (0.7 FTE) Hours are only completed between Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm
Contract: Ongoing
Location: Narungga Country, Sonder Kadina. There will be a requirement of frequent travel within the Yorke Peninsula region and occasional day-travel to the Gawler-Barossa area.

About the Role:
Working as part of the broader Community Services team, the Child Health Nurse will deliver comprehensive, trauma-informed, and culturally safe Child Health and Development Checks (CHDCs) for children aged birth to 5 years. The role supports early identification of health and developmental concerns, provides tailored advice and referrals, and contributes to improved outcomes for children and families, particularly in priority cohorts including Aboriginal, CALD, and regional communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct Child Health and Development Checks (birth to 5 years) using evidence-based screening tools and clinical judgement.
Provide health promotion, immunisation advice, and anticipatory guidance to caregivers and families.
Identify developmental concerns and risk factors early, and coordinate timely referrals to allied health, specialist services, and community supports.
Deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed care and engage respectfully with Aboriginal, CALD, and regional families.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation in electronic medical records and contribute to data collection and reporting requirements.
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including community health, early childhood services, and external providers.
Participate in quality improvement activities and clinical supervision to support best-practice care.
Support community outreach and home visiting as required to engage families and improve access to services.
Experience Requirements:
Registered Nurse:
Minimum 1 year experience working with children aged birth to 5 years or demonstrated interest in transitioning into Child & Family Health Nursing.
Experience conducting developmental screenings or health assessments.
Experience in using electronic medical records and data management tools.
Desirable: Experience working in rural communities.
Desirable: Experience working with Aboriginal and/or CALD communities.
Desirable: Experience in service navigation and referral coordination.
Clinical Nurse:
Minimum 3 years' experience working with children aged birth to 5 years in health, early childhood, or community settings.
Experience conducting developmental screenings or health assessments.
Experience in using electronic medical records and data management tools.
Desirable: Experience working in rural communities.
Desirable: Experience working with Aboriginal and/or CALD communities.
Desirable: Experience in service navigation and referral coordination.
Qualification and Other Requirements:
Registered Nurse:
Current unrestricted Division 1 AHPRA registration
Post graduate qualification in child and family health (or equivalent) or working towards one is desirable
Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
Current or willing to obtain a National Police Check (NPC)
Current Drivers Licence
Clinical Nurse:
Current unrestricted Division 1 AHPRA registration
Post graduate qualification in child and family health (or equivalent)
Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC)

Transition to Practice – Registered Nurse (Child Health)
We welcome applications from Registered Nurses who may be earlier in their career or working in another nursing specialty and are seeking to transition into Child & Family Health Nursing.
Sonder is committed to supporting the development of the right candidate and will provide a structured Transition to Practice plan, including on‑the‑job training and opportunities to work alongside experienced Child Health Nurses.
To be successful in a transition role, applicants must be:
Strongly committed to completing a post‑graduate qualification in Child & Family Health Nursing. Please note: this qualification will be undertaken at the nurse’s own cost.
Willing to regularly travel to the Gawler-Barossa region as part of the Transition to Practice plan, to work alongside and learn from experienced Child Health Nurses.
